Technology Driving Art or “The Changing Shape of Cinema: The History of Aspect Ratio”

“The Changing Shape of Cinema: The History of Aspect Ratio”

This is a excellent review on the history of Aspect Ratios and the technology behind them. Great examples which technology and the market place drive innovation, which then affects the art created with these new tools. Also, Cinerama still looks pretty damn awesome, IMO.  We still see technology driving the arts today. I can’t think of a more perfect example then the advent of GoPro, taking cameras to new perspectives and boldly going where no camera has gone before, due to their size, price, and reliability.  From home-grown Bullet-Time sequences to X-Games style sports, to In-car Russian (meteor or not) dash-cams becoming a style of “street-art" all of it’s own, it’s amazing how the world of video and photography is always changing right before out eyes.  (pun slightly intended)
